The Onion

In this story, the onion uses comedy to make a meaningless article somewhat interesting. Comedy is popular device when it comes to making an article worthwhile. If a website, such as the onion, is known for sarcastically reporting the news there are certain people that will enjoy reading some of their work. The onion relies on people having common sense and being able to understand the message without coming right out and explain the sarcasm in plain text. This particular story would probably not air on any major news station because it is of no importance. Its sole purpose is to entertain someone who is probably bored online and wants a good chuckle. The language in this article is not especially complex, however it is still intelligent. The writer identifies the problem then uses quotes to make the town seem a little uneducated because they cannot come up with a name for the 'main' road in their town. The solution is obvious to any intelligent person and the writer entertains them with the fact that all of these people in the town cannot solve the problem they just did so quickly. The message all in all is completely pointless except to serve for a slight crack of a smile which also may lead to the later return of the reader to the website. Finally the writer reassures the reader that this small town is really as stupid as they seem when he says that they also have this problem with a German theme festival in October, temporarily called Oktobeparty.
