The hours as a film

The success of making a film from The Hours hinges around making sure that all of the minute emotional stages and changes are noticed in a tactful way by the viewer. As the book, it would not necessarily be a mainstream movie, but could still positively contribute to the film community if done correctly. First of all, this film is going to need three amazing female actors for main characters. I make this assertion because in no way would this work if the thoughts and feelings of each character had to be narrated. It would completely ruin the subtlety and flow, therefore actresses capable of depicting these emotions through dialog are needed. At each dialog exchange, a few sentences could be added to give the actresses something more to lean on.
The camera work would also play a large role in immersing the viewer into the women's experience. The three settings could be differentiated by a slight color change. I'm thinking the English scene will be much more of a gray tint, the California a yellow, and the New York a blue. London and LA makes sense, but I'd have to think on the New York some more. Camera movement would also be important. While the women are calm, the movement can be smooth and fluid. The more things progress, the faster it should move and more it should jerk. Not to say that it would get to the point that you couldn't see what's going on, but an effective way to show that someone is scared, nervous, or angry.
Last but not least, a quick discussion on music. I feel that this movie should be particularly quiet so that viewers will be more in to the dialog and the nuances of the actors rather than background.
