V for Vendetta - The other way to handle the government

V for Vendetta is a classic instance of a story that brings controversy, especially in the United States. During the year the movie was released, which was 2005, Americans weren’t exactly content with President Bush and the way the country was being run. First of all, everyone is aware of the events that took place on September 11 which changed Americans’ view of their country and the world drastically. We all went from feeling confident and safe in our country to being obsessed with the idea of terrorism and all that it implies. Furthermore, not every American agreed with the government’s plan of action following September 11 during this time period. Therefore, a movie which is based on a man who is a full-blown terrorist trying to overcome the government makes political minds a bit uneasy. Not only is this man a main character in the movie, but he is the protagonist of the story, which doesn’t seem to help anything as far as the controversial issue of terrorism is concerned.
Another aspect that America is more than likely unhappy with in this movie is the fact that the United States is not the hero of the story. In fact, our country is barely even mentioned at all. I could see many people being discontent with this standpoint since we, as Americans, have always been raised to believe the United States is always trying to provide what is best for our nation as well as other nations around the world. Government officials and political leaders have always tried to paint the picture that America’s political system is full of justice and integrity, and therefore all other nations should follow our path. Therefore, this story faces opposition in that it views America and its system of government as barely worth mentioning.
