A Film Adaptation of The Hours

If I were to make a film adaptation of The Hours, I doubt I would change very little from the book. With most movies that are made after books, the director must cut out a lot of information and sometimes even entire plot lines are completely dropped. This is typically the case because many books made into movies are full of action. It's hard to fit a lot of action into a two to three hour timespan. This is not to say that The Hours is completely void of action, its just driven more by detail and the thoughts of each individual character.
Detail could be easily shown by the setting and visual elements in the movie. To incorporate the thought driven plot, the movie could have each character narrate their own life. If anybody has seen Fight Club, it would be similar to Ed Norton's role, except Virginia, Laura, and Clarissa would narrate their own lives respectively.
Another important aspect to consider when making The Hours into a movie would be the main actresses selected. The whole movie revolves around the lives of these three characters, and if even one out of the three actresses selected didn't do a good job, it could ruin the entire movie. Obviously, I would pick age appropriate actresses, but I would also make sure that the actresses selected were already renowned for their ability instead of trying to give a newer actress their big break.
Lastly, another element I think I would try and use would be flashbacks. In each flashback, the color would be in just black and white. Some examples of scenes that would be in black and white are Virginia Wolfe's suicide and Clarissa's reminiscing about her kiss with Richard by the lake.
