HDB...

When I told a friend about my assignment to analyze some random person’s Myspace page, he immediately suggested that I use one of his friends as a subject. I obliged and found his page and then used the links to his friends’ pages to find a suitable candidate.

The person I chose had the display name “HDB…” and upon first opening the page, I got the distinct impression that this person wants to appear to others as “macho” or “tough.” His background is a picture of two monster-like beings doing battle on the back of some giant winged beast, the cross between an eagle and a pterodactyl. The beast is flying through a lightning strewn tempest, and both warriors are smeared with blood. This scene, along with his quote, “Blood that spills, bones that shatter, but destroy a man's spirit and he will die for sure...” seems to indicate that he wishes to appear more serious and manly than he actually is.

The picture alone does not qualify my opinion of the person, but taken in conjunction with the other items on his page, it seems accurate. Some other items, his video, song, and a game, offset the picture and quotes to make him seem more like a fun-loving person. His video, “The Evolution of Dance,” along with the song “Deutschen Techno” from the movie Super Troopers, and the game “Which Anchorman Are You?” (He is Brick Tamland by the way) conveys his humorous side and love for comedy.

All together I think that this person is in conflict with the way that he is and the way that he would like to be seen. His profile indicates a definite rift in his personality between his serious side and humorous side, what he wishes to be and what he is. Though, admittedly, little information can be gleaned concerning the inner-workings of a persons psyche from a brief glance at a Myspace page.
