democracy in Hong Kong

In Hong Kong many people marched in the name of democracy. The people of Hong Kong feel a need for a change in their government. The demonstrators held up yellow umbrellas in the form of the number two thousand twelve (2012), because that is the expected year of Hong Kong becoming democratic. While holding up the umbrellas the demonstrators chanted “One person one vote, the only way to go”. The writer of the article interviewed a fifty one year old business man who believed that a call for democracy is need, because it will bring a better political environment which will raise the economic development. The writer offers another perspective but does not get an actual interview. He states that businessmen that are Beijing loyalist disagree with the idea of democracy because democracy will cause social upheaval, and will mess up the economy of Hong Kong. The writer gives the reader information on how the officials are elected; he elaborates on how there is a committee that votes on the officials that run Hong Kong. He makes a point to tell the reader that currently none of the residents of Hong Kong have a voice in any of the elections. From the writers rhetoric I can tell that he wants democracy in Hong Kong. The way he goes about writing his article, one can tell that he favors the opinion of the business man that believes that democracy is good for business. One major reason for the writer opinion could be the biasness of the writer being American.
