THE ONION: FUNNY AND INFORMATIVE

The messages on TheOnion.com are relayed using humor and satire. I have never visited the website before but i was instantly drawn to the unique way the information was presented. I viewed a video that gave news of Beyonce almost being hit by a stray bullet. However, According to the video, "LUCKILY a passerby was there to intercept the bullet." The video was completely satirical because it showed how much the world cares about celebrities. The video mainly reported news on Beyonce, who only suffered a bruise from the incident. There was little information about the person who was shot and he was even fined, "$500 for endangering a celebrity." Although this video was fictional it represented how much importance people tend to put on celebrities.

This video was different from the news because it was fictional. The stories that the news reports are usually truthful. Also, the website presents news in a comedic way. Normally, the news present information in a structured, stylized, and serious way.

Beyond the humor, the message is serious and truthful. People tend to put celebrities on a higher pedastal than normal, everyday people. In the video Beyonce was the main focus of the video alhough it was the passerby who was seriously injured. The video used satire to show that peoples priorities can be mixed up when it comes to issues dealing with celebrities.

Although the message of the video was presented in a humorous way, it was still informative. The video was funny, which kept me interested and yet it provoked me to think about how much people tend to worship celebrities. The Onion is an excellet site because the unique way the information is presented keeps the reader interested but yet informed. For the most part the sight appeal to younger people who may become bored with the regular news.
